about Murphys
Affectionately known as the “Queen of the Sierra,” Murphys is a picturesque little town nestled in the heart of California Gold Country, surrounded by the Sierra Nevada foothills, in Calaveras County, California. Rich in goldrush history, Murphys today is a vibrant, lively community, bustling with art galleries and live theater, eclectic shops, fine restaurants, and a multitude of outdoor adventures just waiting to be explored - all within a short drive from town.
Murphys is the perfect town for a wedding, mixing the best of the small town vibe while offering plenty of activities and shops to enjoy.
When we first walked up to the Dunbar House we both felt like this was the place.
The Dunbar house is a cozy, quaint, and romantic Victorian style bed and breakfast just off Main Street
Originally built in 1880, The Dunbar House is a lovely Bed and Breakfast with 6 onsite rooms that pair the Victorian aesthetic with modern amenities. Surrounded by yards, gardens, and old growth trees, the property has everything we sought out for in a wedding venue. We can’t wait to hold both our wedding ceremony and reception here at the Dunbar House!
While staying at the house and exploring it as a possible venue, we both loved the layout, aesthetic and overall hospitality the Dunbar House had to offer. While our wedding party will be staying here during our wedding weekend, we encourage you to stay here yourself someday and enjoy it’s wonderful charm yourself.

The Dunbar House does not provide on-site parking, and parking in downtown Murphys is limited. Thankfully, there are many places to stay within walking distance to our venue, so we encourage you to find great place nearby!
